Our Story

How it all started...

In 1999 Eugene Helms and his wife Marilyn were selected by the people of the Bloomfield Full Gospel Church as their pastors.  At that time, the church’s home was in a remodeled century-old schoolhouse that was known as the Coen School.  At the time of his selection, Eugene had shared his vision of finding another home for the church that would have a larger building with more parking.  While continuing to hold services, the people began working together to find that new home.  The end result was the property and facility we have today.

Expanding the vision...

The property was owned by a couple who had purchased the property and built the facility to relocate their machine shop from Chicago to Greene County.  Due to business developments, they decided not to relocate their business as originally planned.  Church representatives approached the couple and worked out an arrangement to acquire the property.  The couple took a step of faith and agreed to set up a contract to lease with option to buy.  The people began to work together to remodel the interior of the building for a sanctuary, classrooms, fellowship hall, kitchen, restrooms, and a church office.  A new name had been adopted for the church, Word of Life Fellowship. With some spaces still unfinished, the church moved into the new facility in 2002.

The Story Continues...

Work continued on the unfinished spaces while holding regular church services.  Through the faithful giving of the people and God’s help, the church was able to complete all the terms of the contract—the rest is history!  Both internal and external modifications continue to be made to adjust to the church’s needs.  A recent addition of playground equipment for the children is such an example.  We are continuing to grow and welcome you to join us!
